January 2017

Start of construction works: Veloway 1 Stage D Section 3

Construction of Veloway 1 Stage D – Section 3 will start in early February 2017, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Day time works will be carried out from Monday through to Saturday between 7am to 5pm with occasional night works carried out from 8pm to 5am. Section 3 is due for completion in late 2017, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Section 3 at Greenslopes – works include the construction of a bridge over Cornwall Street. This will be situated between the Pacific Motorway and the South East Busway.

Construction of this section will involve:

piling, concreting and bridge construction

installation of guardrails, drainage, balustrades, anti-throw screens, fencing and retaining walls.

Expected impacts include:

dust, noise and lights from construction equipment, reversing vehicles and activities on site. Residents will be notified in advance of any night works

traffic diversions on Cornwall Street, Pacific Motorway and South East Busway above Cornwall Street, Greenslopes. Traffic controllers, police and road signage will be in place when required

pedestrian detours – signage will be in place.

Stage D consists of four sections and will only open to cyclists once all four sections are complete. Sections 1, 2 and 4 have been completed, with section 3 being the last vital link and due for completion in late 2017.

Graceville Station Accessibility Upgrade

Work has resumed on the Graceville Station Accessibility Upgrade.

A planned track closure is scheduled at Graceville Station from 6am, Saturday 14 to 6am Monday 16 January. The station, including all platforms and the subway, will be closed and ticketing equipment will not be available. A courtesy shuttle bus will be provided for pedestrians wishing to cross the rail corridor.

Night works will occur at the Station during awning refurbishment works from Sunday 8 to Thursday 12 January. Continuous works will occur from from 6am, Saturday 14 to 6am, Monday 16 January 2017.

During these works, customers and residents may experience noise from heavy machinery, use of reversing beepers, changed traffic and parking conditions, mobile lighting towers, increased vehicle movement, and temporary changes to access paths throughout the station precinct. Residents will be given advanced notice of construction activities likely to cause impacts.


December 2016

Graceville Station Accessibility Upgrade
In coming weeks, Qld Rail will undertake further lift shaft construction works, refurbishment works and resurfacing on platforms 3 and 4. Night works will occur at the Stations, Sunday to Thursdays between 6:30pm and 6:30am on 4-8, 11-15, and 18-22 December.

Works will cease over Christmas between Friday 23 December and Tuesday 3 January.

During these works, customers and residents may experience noise from heavy machinery, use of reversing beepers, changed traffic and parking conditions, mobile lighting towers, increased vehicle movement, and temporary changes to access paths throughout the station precinct. Residents will be given advanced notice of construction activities likely to cause impacts.

No further road closures to Honour Avenue are planned until mid-February.

Water Main Replacement – Corinda
Between November 2016 and April 2017, Queensland Urban Utilities are undertaking water main upgrades in Railway Terrace, Corinda. Works can take anywhere from four to twelve weeks to complete, depending on the length of the pipe and weather conditions.

Work will be undertaken between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday. Some night works may be required, but residents will be notified of this.

Water services will be maintained throughout the works through a temporary bypass pipe. However, some night works may cause disruptions. Residents will be notified 48 hours prior to any planned outages.

Residents can expect some dust and noise during excavation, some limits to footpath access and on-street parking, changed traffic conditions, lighting during night works, some temporary water outages during connection works, and some driveway impacts.

Queensland Urban Utilities will temporarily repair any damages caused during construction and will return upon completion to fully restore any disturbed roads, driveways or footpaths to their original condition.

Some trees may have been removed before the process began, but will be replaced once work is complete.

Kerb & Channel Works
The following streets are undergoing Kerb and Channel reconstruction works:

  • Castle St, Fairfield between Newcastle and Inscape Sts
  • Mildmay St, Fairfield between 79 Mildmay St and Ashby St
  • Brougham St, Fairfield between Fairfield Rd and Home St

Residents may experience some restrictions to through traffic, dust and noise, possible minor delays to accessing properties, equipment and materials left on site during the project, and limits to on street parking at times. Your patience is appreciated during this worthwhile work.

Remediation of Power Plant Foundations in Ken Fletcher Park
Council have approved tree planting and rejuvenation of the unsightly power station foundations in Ken Fletcher Park, Tennyson.

The project will see River Lillys to feature at the centre of the foundations with the following vegetation to be planted in surrounding garden beds and along the bottom pathway:

  • Hardenbergia Violacea
  • Liriope ‘Stripey White”
  • Callistemon ‘Little John’
  • Anigozanthos  Red Flowered, Kangaroos Paw
  • Anigozanthos  Yellow Flowered, Kangaroos Paw

These plants have been specifically chosen due to their low maintenance, lack of interference with the foundations and resistance to waterlogged soils.

Graceville Station Accessibility Upgrade
Work is still underway on the accessibility upgrade to Graceville Rail Station.

To date, the original stairs on platforms 3 and 4 have been removed, excavation works for new lifts shafts have been completed, concrete cutting has commenced to modify subway walls for lift access, and concrete has been poured for new light pole footings. The following work will commence in coming weeks:

  • Further work on lift entrances
  • Continuing excavation works for new lift shafts
  • Concrete pours for new stairs and lift shafts
  • Night works from Sunday to Thursday night through October

Commuters and residents may experience noise from heavy machinery, use of reversing beepers, changed traffic and parking conditions, mobile lighting towers, increased vehicle movement, and temporary changes to access paths throughout the station precinct. Residents will be given advanced notice of construction activities likely to cause impacts. I understand that there are impacts associated with this work and appreciate your patience and understanding during this important and much-needed upgrade.

Tree Removal and Replacement Graceville
Council have approved the removal of a total of 11 Pongamia trees between 24 and 34 Appel Street, and Verney Road and Connors Street, Graceville. I understand that these are very significant trees, however, severe damage was caused from Energex trimming works that the trees are just unable to recover from. Be assured that these trees will be replaced with 16 Callistemon trees.

Kerb and Channel Remediation Gowrie St, Annerley
In coming weeks, works will be undertaken to replace the kerb and channel on Gowrie Street, Annerley, between View and Harewood Streets.

Residences may experience some impacts from the works, including the following:

  • Some restrictions to through traffic
  • Dust and noise
  • Possible minor delays accessing properties
  • Equipment and materials left on site during the project
  • Limits to on-street parking at times

Work will mostly occur from Mondays to Fridays, between 7am and 4pm, but work outside these areas may be necessary. You will be notified of any work that will directly affect your property.

I understand these works are an inconvenient and appreciate your patience during these much-needed works.


September 2016

Boulevard Shadeways Planting Ipswich Rd, Annerley – Stage 8

Council have approved for the next stage of works to begin on Ipswich Road, Annerley’s Boulevard Shadeway Planting.

In order to minimise traffic disruptions, the work will be undertaken at night. While most work will be conducted on the footpath, there may be small traffic disruptions.

Ten existing trees between 758 and 816 Ipswich Road, Annerley will be removed and replaced with a total of 21 garden beds containing 12 Grevillae Bailyania trees.

Garden bed installation is scheduled to begin in coming weeks and should be completed within 2 – 3 weeks with the trees to be planted six weeks after the garden beds are installed, weather permitting.

Footpath Reconstruction Fairfield Road, Yeronga
Concrete footpath reconstruction works are to begin on Fairfield Road between Paragon and Yeronga Streets, Yeronga on Sunday 4 September 2016 and will continue for two weeks, weather permitting.

Some temporary inconveniences may occur, which include the following:

  • restrictions to through traffic
  • dust and noise
  • possible minor delays in accessing property
  • equipment and materials left on the site during the project
  • limits to parking on the street at times.

To avoid major traffic disruptions and to ensure the safety of workers and motorists, work will be undertaken between 7:30pm and 5am.

Sherwood to Tennyson Underground Works
From early June, Energex began installing underground cable between the Tennyson and Sherwood substations as part of works to upgrade the network. This will continue to require some road work and possible delays along King Arthur Terrace, Camelot Street, Vivian Street, Plumer Street and Lockwood Street.
Residents can expect traffic control around work areas, large machinery operation, intermittent higher noise levels and minor trenching works around joint bays.
The majority of works will be conducted between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. However, occasional weekend work will be required.
While some disruptions are expected, your cooperation and understanding during these necessary works are appreciated.

Graceville Station Accessibility Upgrade
In the coming weeks, the following construction works can be expected on and around the Graceville Station:
  • Overhead equipment work between 10pm and 5pm from Sunday 17 – Thursday 21 July
  • further underground service relocations
  • additional temporary lighting installations
  • preliminary foundation works for new lift shafts
  • temporary removal of some furniture, lighting and signage on platforms 3 and 4 to prepare for lift shaft works.

King Arthur Terrace Resurfacing
As you may be aware, King Arthur Terrace, Tennyson has been undergoing resurfacing works for the past week. The final stage of these works will commence on Sunday 12 June from 7am – 11am when the final asphalt layer will be laid.

While residents and visitors are asked not to park their vehicles on the road during construction hours, there may also be some noise and dust from machinery, limited or no access for through traffic and detours in place.

I understand that so far these works have been quite disruptive, but I appreciate your cooperation during this much-needed resurfacing work.
