Great news! The Newman State Government has back flipped on their decision to close Dutton Park Rail Station.

Thanks to community pressure, Dutton Park Station will now be retained and upgraded. Dutton Park is a key inner city station that has been servicing our local community, hospital patients and staff and students since 1884.

I want to acknowledge the hard work and persistence of the resident reference group, hospital staff, Aid for the Blind residents and in particular, Annerley residents, Brad and Jacqueline. They fought hard and secured improvements to the BaT Tunnel Project such as better pedestrian and cyclist access and bus connections. Well done!

The State Government’s proposed design for the BaT (Bus and Train) Tunnel proposed to abolish the Dutton Park Rail Station leaving residents, hospital works and students stranded without a local train station. There are a number of other issues of concern to the community including the design, the removal of spoil by road rather than rail, hours of operation and impacts to bus and rail services.

I have written to the Coordinator advising that I do not support decommissioning of Dutton Park Rail Station.
