Meet Costa Mukendi

March 11, 2017 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

From Congolese-Australian community leader, Constantin (Costa) Mukendi, comes a “heart-warming and heart-wrenching” memoir of “resilience, faith, survival, family and love”.

Orphaned at six years old in a Kasai village, Costa could have become a street kid but is instead passed from relative to relative. One day something shocks Costa into realising he, the ‘orphan village boy’, might be intelligent and loved after all. A lecture from his disciplinarian brother now hits home: “Your school is your mother and father; you must get an education.” This becomes Costa’s mantra as he faces his inner torments, within a country troubled with poverty, oppression and violence to become the first member of his tribe to graduate university and become a teacher and pastor.

In I Could Have Been a Street Kid, Costa reveals with refreshing transparency his life from DR Congo to 11 years in a desolate and corrupt Zambian refugee camp to finally re-settlement in Australia where he doesn’t rest on his laurels and works to once again assist his people. Join Costa as he shares his remarkable story.

Books will be available for purchase at the event, or bring your copy from home for Costantin to sign. Bookings essential.
