After six years of petitions, meetings, letters and more, Council has finally agreed to install a pedestrians safety refuge at the intersection of Acacia and Richardson Sts, Graceville in coming months. HOORAY! The refuge will provide a safe crossing point at this busy intersection for Graceville SS students, Kindy families and residents and visitors accessing the park and netball courts.

A huge thank you must go to Jo Richards, parent co-ordinator for the Graceville Active School Travel Committee, who has been a tireless advocate for many years for safe travels to school. Also a big thank you for Chris Hansen, current president of Graceville SS P&C, and Derek Brown, immediate past president, who wrote and attended meetings with the Lord Mayor to put forward the School’s case. Thank you for speaking up for our community.

We are still after two more refuges at the rear of the School on Park Rd, near White St and Park Rd, near Verney Rd and I am working with State Member Mark Bailey to have the safe crossing points funded from a new joint Council – State Government programme.

Graceville is an amazing Active Travel School and I look forward to working with them again in 2019, together with Christ the King and Sherwood State School who also joined the Council safe travel programme.
