Thank you all for signing the petition to widen the low rail bridge at Corinda/Sherwood. Almost 1000 residents signed the petition. As a result, Council has now written to the State Government regarding details of the funding proposal for the widening of the Oxley Rd rail bridge. When the State Government replies, I will update everyone with further details. This is also a project that I discuss regulalry with State Member and Minister for Transport, Mark Bailey.
One of the biggest bottlenecks along Oxley Rd is the low rail bridge separating Sherwood and Corinda. The single lane merge sees traffic banked back along Oxley Rd for a kilometre or more and encourages rat running through Jerrold St because of the congestion. In the AM peak, the Oxley Rd/Coonan St corridor is the 4th slowest in the City averaging just 21kms an hour.
I am hopeful that both Council and the State Government will commit to funding this much-needed project.
