Last year, 72% of Brisbane Corso residents responded to a survey in favour of a speed limit reduction to improve consistency along the Brisbane Corso in Fairfield and Yeronga.

The survey results demonstrate strong support for a speed limit reduction along Brisbane Corso in favour of a more consistent speed limit.

  • 72% of residents surveyed supported the speed limit reduction along the Brisbane Cso up to the 40km/h zone between Stimpson St and Princess St.
  • Of these, 50% supported a reduction to 50km/h and 36% supported a reduction to 40km/h with 14% in support of either option.

I passed these survey results on to Council along with a request to investigate a lowering of the speed limit to 50km along the Brisbane Corso from Orlando Rd, Yeronga to Fenton St, Fairfield to improve consistency. Disappointingly, Council’s no response ignored residents’ strong support for a speed limit reduction in this busy pedestrian, cyclist and vehicle area.

The existing SAM signs along the Corso indicate an average of 8,003 vehicles per day travel along the Corso. Of these, 16.1% are speeding by an average of 7km/h over the speed limit. To date, I have used local funds to install SAM signs on multiple locations along the Corso, including a new sign that has just been installed on the frontage of Jacaranda Park, Yeronga.

I’m calling on residents to sign the petition on Council’s website calling on Council to implement a speed reduction along Brisbane Corso through Yeronga and Fairfield by removing the 60km speed zone in favour of a consistent 50km speed limit from Orlando Rd, Yeronga to Fenton St, Fairfield. The current 40km section near the South Brisbane Cemetery would be retained. The petition closes on 31 May 2023.

I hope that by speaking up as a community Council will listen to our feedback.
