Earlier in the year, I surveyed Chelmer residents regarding the preferred location, age range and play elements for a playground upgrade in the suburb. Of those who responded, 68% supported an upgrade of the playground at Gordon Thomson Park, Chelmer. 32% supported a playground upgrade at Taylor Bridge Reserve.

Feedback on the playground style was tied between a ninja warrior-style playground and an all abilities playground. The top five play elements supported in the survey were:

  • shade (51.35%);
  • ninja-style climbing equipment (51.35%);
  • swings (45.95%);
  • fort with slide (40.54%); and
  • agility equipment (37.84%).

I will now be using funds from the 2022-23 local park trust funds to develop a playground upgrade for Gordon Thomson Park. Taylor Bridge Reserve remains on Council’s capital works list for a future upgrade.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. There will be further consultation when a concept design is developed later in the year.
