Monday 12 March

Reas the latest on cyclone and flood recovery in my enewsletter here.

Monday 10 March

It’s great news that the extreme weather is abating, but please be vigilant as there is localised flooding, power outages and significant tree and park damage. All the details on where and how to get help are in my enewsletter here, including household kerbside collection for flooded streets.

Sunday 9 March

It’s been a wild night as the tail of TC Alfred passes over us. There are thousands of home locally without power, several traffic lights out including Sherwood Rd and Oxley Rd, trees and debris down and localised flooding across roads and parks in all the usual locations. If the rain continues, we will experience local flooding. Please be vigilant if you are out today and stay close to home. Key emergency contacts are noted below.
I am working across the weekend if you need anything. Please phone 3403 8605 or email tennyson.ward@bcc.qld.gov.au as we cannot always monitor Facebook.
Out of power? Want some company? St Matthew’s Sherwood, 650 Sherwood Rd is opening between 4-6pm tonight for phone charging, a meal, tea and coffee. In the hall behind the church. Pop in for some company, hot food and a chat.
⚠️ If you flooded in 2022, please be prepared for water through your property again if this rain continues. You can track Brisbane River and Oxley Creek heights on BOM’s website here.
🚌 Bus services have been suspended until further notice. Check the Translink website here.
🌲 There is free green waste tipping at Willawong and the other Council tips today. No word on a kerbside greenwaste pick up as yet from the Lord Mayor.
🗑️ Scheduled waste collection services resume tomorrow, Monday 10 March.

Thursday 6 March

I hope everyone has used the cyclone reprieve today for final preparations. The new BOM forecast shows Cyclone Alfred crossing the coast at Brisbane on Friday night and Saturday morning. Expect destructive winds, intense rainfall and flash flooding, storm surge and some minor flooding.

Please stay at home on Friday and Saturday. Fill buckets or your bath from the tap if you need to so you have water for drinking, cooking and your pets.

Intense rainfall will cause flash flooding. Stormwater drains are not built to handle heavy rainfall so there will be localised flooding. Please stay off the roads and away from drains.
