Despite grass growing up out of Oxley Rd, large subsidence’s, slumps and potholes, repeatedly patched areas and black ‘superglue’ covering the cracks, one of the local Councillors for Oxley and Chairperson in charge of Council road maintenance, Cr Sarah Hutton, says Oxley Rd is “safe” and resurfacing is not needed.
Under this Lord Mayor and his ‘team’, Council won’t even list some of the worst affected sections in Oxley, Graceville and Corinda for future resurfacing. Instead of wasting over $300,000 on junkets to the Olympics, I think this funding would be better spent making our community safer.
Did you know the suburb of Oxley is actually divided across four Council Wards – Tennyson, Jamboree, Moorooka and Forest Lake? Many of Oxley’s community facilities are located in Tennyson Ward, but are used by residents from all over Oxley and beyond.
I am listening to residents who believe Oxley deserves infrastructure upgrades including more flood resilience, safer roads and intersections, community, pedestrian and park upgrades but is the Lord Mayor and his new City Standards Chairperson, Cr Sarah Hutton, who also represents Oxley?
Oxley deserves intersection upgrades to make Oxley Rd safer and investment in community facilities like the Corinda Library to benefit all residents in the district. Plus, Nixon Park deserves as much love as Rocks Riverside Park. I’m fighting for better facilities and infrastructure for Oxley, and you can help by talking to your local Councillor.
October 2023
Like many residents who use Oxley Rd every day I have noticed it is in terrible shape – full of cracks, potholes, slumps and is being held together with black superglue. There is even grass growing though the road in places in Graceville and Oxley.
Recently, I asked the Lord Mayor a question about why Oxley Rd is not being resurfaced, even where it was flooded. In response, he said that Oxley Rd was not a priority and resurfacing was not needed. I imagine he has not driven along Oxley Rd recently. Or perhaps he thinks it will be cheaper to mow than resurface. Even if Council started resurfacing works this year it could be up to 5-6 years before the entire length is done, as major roads are usually resurfaced progressively by suburb in Council’s annual Budget.
I believe that resurfacing Oxley Rd is a priority to make it safer for our local community. Sign the petition and help me send a message to Council that Oxley Rd needs to be resurfaced in Oxley, Corinda, Sherwood, Graceville and Chelmer.
