Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to the survey regarding a speed limit reduction along Sherwood Rd between Oxley Rd and Dewar Tce, Sherwood.
Numerous residents have requested improvements to pedestrian facilities through this section of Sherwood Rd. Currently this section of Sherwood Rd is a mix of 50km/h and 60km/h.
A total of 326 people responded to the survey, which asked whether they support a lowering of the speed limit to 40km/h on Sherwood Rd, Sherwood between Oxley Rd and Dewar Tce, through the Sherwood shopping precinct.
The survey results demonstrate strong support for a reduction to 40km/h through this section of Sherwood Rd. 75% of residents surveyed supported the speed reduction.
This section of Sherwood Rd is an extremely busy pedestrian area, with high volumes of both young and elderly pedestrians, servicing:
- Sherwood State School
- St Matthew’s Church and Sherwood Uniting Church
- Numerous shops, hospitality venues, essential services and including a major supermarket
- Sherwood Rail Station
- Thallon St community precinct, including childcare, kindergartens, senior’s respite, Girl Guides, a park and neighbourhood centre.
Given the strong support for a lowering of the speed limit, I have asked Council to investigate and consult on delivering a 40km/h zone on Sherwood Rd between Oxley Rd and Dewar Tce to improve pedestrian safety. I’ll keep you updated as the process unfolds.
