DESCRIPTION:As the Queen’s Baton travels through the Ward\, road closures will be in place between 4:30pm and 6:30pm on Good Friday\, 30 March from Gordon Thomson Park\, Chelmer along Wharf St\, Oxley Rd\, Sherwood Rd\, Dewar Tce and Jolimont St. You can view a map of the baton’s path and road closures here. Please ensure you plan ahead and take into account any road closures on the day. \nWhile the baton is travelling through the Ward\, residents are more than welcome to view the Baton bearers along their route. Baton bearers comprise local residents\, distinguished Queenslanders and sporting legends\, including Olympic swimmer and local Suzie O’Neill who will run the last leg into Sherwood Arboretum. Paraolympian Gerrard Gosens will run through his local suburb\, Graceville and there are a few special guests\, including Olympic great\, Tracey Wickham and Professor Ian Frazer. You can view a list of the Baton Bearers and their schedule here. \nAs part of the event\, a community celebration will be held at the Sherwood Arboretum from 4pm on Good Friday where the local community can view the baton and engage with baton bearers\, while enjoying food\, music\, stalls and games for the kids. \nIf you live east of Oxley Rd\, to access the Sherwood Arboretum on the day\, you will need to divert via Jerrold St\, Quarry Rd and Dewar Tce\, Sherwood to avoid the road closure at Sherwood Rd\, between Oxley Rd and Dewar Tce\, as well as part of Dewar Tce and Jolimont St. Plan ahead\, so you don’t get stuck! \nThe Queen’s Baton Relay takes a message from the Queen through the Commonwealth to the Opening Ceremony of the Games. The QBR will travel 129 kilometres through Brisbane\, starting on Good Friday 30 March\, 2018 travelling from Brighton to Sherwood and finishing on Easter Saturday\, 31 March\, 2018 travelling from Chandler to South Bank.
