October 2016
Council has approved the RSCPA Site development.
Despite hundreds of submissions and an application contrary to City Plan 2014 and the draft Neighbourhood Plan, Council has approved the RSPCA development.
I know a lot of people will be confused about how this can happen. I am very frustrated that this Council continues to ignore planning and zoning rules and community feedback.
In my view, Council’s decision to approve multiple five storey buildings and almost 200 units on the old RSPCA site is a shocking decision. Council’s own planning scheme does not support high rise in Yeronga.
The development takes away valuable green space used by our community and will simply jam more units into an area that lacks appropriate drainage and into a road network already under pressure. That’s not even mentioning the future flooding issues.
As your local Councillor, I have strongly opposed this development from the start and it shows just how far out of touch The Lord Mayor’s administration is when it comes to appropriate development in the City. He welcomed the decision in a public announcement today. They are out of touch with our community and our needs and simply are not listening.
The only option now is an appeal to the Planning and Environment Court, which is a complex and costly process. If anyone is interested in appealing you will receive a letter in the mail from Council in the next few days outlining the timeframe and process.
I am sorry to be the bearer of this bad news.
September 2016
The developer has made further revisions to the proposed unit complex at the old RSPCA site at 295 Fairfield Rd, Yeronga.
The number of units has been reduced to 195 but the site still includes multiple five storey buildings in the centre of the site. For those who are interested, a new flood report has also been provided by the Developer. It still doesn’t address the displacement impacts for the surrounding homes.
I have made a further objection to the revised plans, which still do not adequately address traffic, parking and flooding issues.
You can review my further objection and the revised plans here.
We now await Council’s decision.
Supplementary Objection May 2016
295 Fairfield Road, Supplementary Objection
The Public Notification period has now commenced for the proposed seven storey, 250 unit complex on the old RSPCA Site at 295 Fairfield Rd, Fairfield.
As you know, the former State Government sold the land to a private developer last year. The developer has now lodged an application for a high density unit complex on this flood prone site.
Submissions must be lodged by 17 July 2015.
Please find a draft submission below against this proposed development. Feel free to personalise this submission with your own views and how this proposal will impact on your home and neighbourhood.
295 Fairfield Road, Objection FINAL
I am concerned about the following aspects of the proposal:
multiple seven storey towers which are out of keeping with the surrounding two and three storey residential area;
the excessive building size, footprint and density of 18,256sqm;
adverse traffic impacts on the Venner Rd round-a-bout and surrounding local streets;
adverse flooding issues on the site and impacts on nearby residential sites;
inadequate on-site parking for residents and visitors;
inadequate parkland allocation of 3,439swm, less than the minimum required of 4,406sqm;
a tiny community hall space of just 220sqm, that is not open at night and can be used by residents used by residents of the complex.
You can lodge your submission online via the link below, in person at my office or the Yeerongpilly Business Centre or by post to GPO Box 1434, Brisbane Q 4001.
A proposed development at 295 Fairfield Rd, Yeronga has been submitted to Council to create multiple high rise buildings, including 250 units, up to seven storeys.
I am very concerned about the proposed density on the site, the height of the buildings, flooding, plans to fill the site, traffic impacts and many other adverse consequences should this proposal go ahead. In my view it is a highly speculative and poorly considered development application.
As local residents I encourage you to have your say about the proposed plans impacting on your neighbourhood.

Save the RSPCA Site
Lord Mayor, Graham Quirk, and the Newman Government have reneged on their promise to convert the old RSPCA site at Fairfield to parkland for community recreational and sporting use.
In August 2011 Council said it was a “terrific idea” to convert the site to parkland and voted unanimously, including now Premier and Lord Mayor, to support the idea. They have now back flipped.
The land belongs to our community and should not be sold off for profit to the highest bidder.
I am calling on the Lord Mayor and Premier to work together in the best interest of the community and convert the old RSPCA site to parkland. Help me save this valuable land for our community.
